Meet SESI #1

We are back with our little educational series, which is becoming a thing in FIT! We enjoy doing it, and so we hope you do while reading!
Now it is the turn of
SESI, the core of our company. So, why don't we start with the beginning?

What is SESI, and how does it work?

SESI means Secondary Electro-Spray Ionization, and it is an ambient ionization technique for the analysis of trace concentrations of vapors and nano-aerosols. It uses a nano-electrospray that produces a cloud of charging ions that collide with the analyte molecules directly in the gas phase. As a result, these ions ionize the vapor molecules that are in contact with the cloud.

SESI works in combination with analytical techniques such as Mass Spectrometry, so after the ionization, the molecules are guided to the Mass Spectrometer to be analyzed. We prepared this infographic so it gets even easier to understand ;)

There are so many different things that can affect the ionization, the spray stability, the limits of detection... And all of this has a key role in all the applications that SESI has!

But these are topics for the future posts of our series :)

So stay tuned, and don't miss our next posts!
